Welcome to the Wallet Design Sprint! We will be using the Stanford University d.school model alongside the IB MYP Design Cycle as scaffolding for this unit. Your goal will be to empathize with your client through primary interviews before sketching out some ideas for them to consider. Once you gather feedback from each other, you will refine your concept sketches and develop an origami wallet to prototype. After your client is satisfied with the functionality of the prototype, you will create a sturdier version using duct tape to provide them with their ideal wallet!
Before we begin, let's see if anyone already has a great idea for a wallet! Do some quick concept sketching practice.
You have 3 minutes. . . GO!!!
Interview your client (4 minutes) and dig deeper (3 minutes). Use sample questions if you need ideas...
Develop a detailed design brief, which summarizes the analysis of relevant research (A4)
Capture findings and define a problem statement about what your clients needs are and why. Examples below...
Rewrite your problem statement from Step 4 in a complete sentence and sketch out 5 RADICAL ideas on how to address your partners needs. Share your sketches and capture feedback
Refine your idea into a technical sketch based on the feedback you have received. Use a ruler, colored pencils and shading to generate a polished version. Annotate your drawing with measurements and key features like in the example below. Take 30 minutes for this drawing.
Use Origami to create a prototype of the wallet and get feedback from your partner before creating the final version.
Use Duct Tape to create a final version of the wallet and get feedback from your partner. E
