2027-28 theme: TBC | Suggestions welcome
In this design project, you will develop a furniture product using a particular design style. In addition to being a piece of furniture, the product will have a secondary function when it is scaled down to a model size.
Example:
A classically styled deck chair which functions as a phone holder at small scale.
Statement
of inquiry:
“The job of the designer is to make things understandable, usable, accessible, enjoyable…”
- Paula Scher
Communicating a design to a wider audience allows others to benefit.
Analyzing - Describe complex patterns and trends. Question and evaluate information to justify explanations and judgements.
Focus exploration:
Modernization, industrialization and engineering
Success criteria:
Your product will be successful if;
Your product appeals to the given target audience and functions as intended.
Your product clearly communicates the intended style and its intended function.
Initial inquiry:
What methods of construction are suited to easy manufacture
How can a basic prototype be modeled to prove a concept?
What is a design style?
How can we scale designs for easy manufacture?
Curate a pintrest board of lighting products to gather inspiration and find your style
